Guardianship/Conservatorship

A guardianship is a process that the probate court sets up that allows you to be appointed over another person if they have lost mental capacity and cannot make their own mental decisions or day to day healthcare decisions. When a person cannot make financial decisions due to poor mental or physical state, a conservatorship can be established to control that person’s property and finances.

Year Support

When a loved one has passed away, and finances become harsh, Georgia, the spouse of the deceased, and children to request Year Support. This petition supports them for a year to not pay taxes. You have up to 2 years to file for Year Support after the death of your spouse, and you don’t have to probate the estate.

Power of Attorney

If you become mentally or physically unable to make financial decisions, a Power of Attorney will allow a loved one to make the decisions for you.

After a child turns 18, a parent no longer has Power of Attorney. If your child cannot mentally take care of themselves, you may petition for a Power of Attorney to make decisions for them.

Advanced Healthcare

This directive has the statement of your intent in case you are incapacitated and cannot make health-related decisions on your own. It can also determine whether you wish to have any procedure done to preserve your life if death is imminent. Meaning you want to either be kept on or be removed from life support as well as carry out your burial wishes.
